Marriage is about going through hardships together, and knowing that your partner is committed to facing them with you provides a deep sense of security. But it can be incredibly painful when a crucial decision reveals that you’re not being chosen for reasons that seem thoughtless.

In a recent confession shared by @pelisahh, an anonymous woman (let’s call her Sheila) opened up about a simple answer that deeply troubled her and broke her heart.

“Mum, wife or daughter?”

In the post, Sheila begins by recounting a night out where she and her husband had dinner with a few friends. After finishing their meal, one of the single friends posed a hypothetical question to the group of husbands:

“If your mum, wife, and daughter were all drowning at sea, and you could only save 2 of them, who would you choose?”

Sheila went on to explain that, by chance, her husband was the 1st to be asked the question. Without hesitation, he replied that he would choose to save his mum and daughter.

“A wife can be replaced at any time”

Sheila’s husband explained that he chose his mum because she gave him life and his daughter because she is his flesh and blood. To make matters worse, he even went on to explain why he didn’t choose Sheila.

He said that a wife can be replaced at any time. His response left everyone at the table stunned into silence, as no one expected him to say such a thing, especially with Sheila there.

“One of his friends even asked him to confirm if his answer was final, but my husband remained serious and firm in his response.”

“I felt ashamed, sad and angry”

Sheila then described how the wives of her husband’s friends immediately understood her distress upon hearing his answer and comforted her by holding her hand.

“Their wives reached out to me, holding my hand and showing that they understood what I was going through. I felt a mix of shame, sadness, and anger.”

On their drive home after dinner, Sheila noted that her husband showed no remorse or guilt for hurting her feelings, nor did he apologise for his words.

She’s 21 weeks pregnant

The next day, Sheila explained that despite the pain, she chose to stay silent and went about her morning as if nothing happened.

She revealed that she and her husband had been married for a year and she is 21 weeks pregnant.

“I made sure to prepare breakfast, iron his work clothes, and let him know I was heading to work. But as soon as I got in my car, I broke down and cried alone because of how hurt I felt.”

She continued to express her sadness by questioning whether wives are considered to have no value, which led her husband to make such hurtful comments.

“Even if he didn’t choose to save me, was it really necessary for him to publicly say that wives are simply replaceable?”
