Previously, we reported that local musician Amir Jahari told the Member of Parliament (MP) of Masjid Tanah, Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin that he doesn’t allow the latter to use his song in a video showing support for former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. This is because he doesn’t want any of his songs to be used for political agendas.
Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Mas Ermieyati then took down the video with the song and issued a rather sarcastic ‘apology’ to Amir Jahari. Following the kerfuffle, another Malaysian musician, Altimet jokingly told Mas Ermieyati that she can use his song for the video if she wanted to.
Taking to Twitter, Altimet responded to a tweet of a video showing the Masjid Tanah MP’s ‘apology’ to Amir Jahair by saying, “Just use my song, YB. I’m willing,”. While the musician did not mention any specific song, it is believed that he is referring to “Aduh Malaysia (Hoi Ya Hoi)” which he released prior to the 15th General Election (GE15).
The song was used for Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) election campaign and was based on the late Tan Sri P Ramlee’s “Ali Baba dengan 40 Penyamun” song. In case you’re not familiar, the song’s lyrics sarcastically criticise corruption and thieves, which would be rather ironic to be used for a solidarity video for Muhyiddin, who was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court yesterday.
Altimet himself is a PKR member and helped in PH’s GE15 campaign. However, his Aduh Malaysia (Hoi Ya Hoi) song, which was largely used against UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) during GE15 seemingly came back to haunt him post-GE15 as PH joined both to make up the Unity Government. In fact, PN supporters have been sarcastically using the song against PH ever since the Unity Government was formed.
Of course, this is mere speculation from our side as Altimet didn’t expressly detail what song Mas Ermieyati should use for her video. Nevertheless, the whole exchange was indeed a cheeky dig by Altimet against the PN MP.
