Hong Kong actor Philip Keung recently highlighted kopitiams as one of the must-visit places when in Malaysia.
Philip, who celebrated Chinese New Year in Penang, often expresses his love for Malaysia and says he feels welcomed in the country, remarking that Penang is “fantastic as always.” This time, Philip shared his visit to Johor Bahru, where he enjoyed a hearty breakfast at a kopitiam, just like the locals do.

On his dining table, Philip had the iconic toasts, curry puffs, an egg tart, a hot cup of kopi O, and even the classic kuih ketayap, which he pronounced perfectly, as seen in his Instagram post.
In another Instagram video, the Hong Kong actor also demonstrated how locals enjoy their soft-boiled eggs, complete with a dash of white pepper and soy sauce.

“No fancy decor. No air-con. Just the real, unfiltered atmosphere of a local kopitiam.”
In his post, Philip said a local kopitiam has a lot to savour, adding that anyone visiting Malaysia must experience it as one of the best ways to enjoy local culture.
“A toast and a cup of Kopi O. What an enjoyment!”

Philip also said that time seems to slow down when you’re enjoying yourself in a kopitiam, remarking that this is how you taste the true rhythm of the place.
“The most authentic cultural experience. Your ears pick up neighborhood chatter, your mouth savors flavors passed down for generations.”
This was not Philip’s first introduction to Malaysian culture, as he had previously shared his experiences in Penang.
