A recent story making the rounds online shows what’s claimed to be a Malaysian man’s documents, reportedly found on the Ukraine-Russia battlefield.
These documents, which include his MyKad and driver’s license, were allegedly found after Russian forces invaded the fortress of the Ukrainian army.
He’s alive and safe
Sinar Harian reported that Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain shared that they received info confirming that the 20-year-old Malaysian man is alive and safe in Ukraine.
The investigation shows he applied online to join the Ukrainian military to fight against Russian forces and has been there since April, undergoing military training.
He tried to escape to safety
Apparently, he was drawn to join the conflict due to his interest in military work and the salary, which ranges from USD 400 (about RM1.7K) to USD 2,700 (around RM12K) a month, depending on how risky the battlefield conditions are.
Razarudin mentioned that pressure from family members is also believed to have led the man to distance himself and seek work overseas.
During a Russian drone attack in mid-October, he reportedly tried to escape to safety, but his MyKad and driver’s license were left behind, though he still has his passport with him.
He serves in the role of a mercenary
Recently, 2 images surfaced online showing a Malaysian MyKad and driver’s license, supposedly found on a battlefield in Livadny, Zaporizhia, Ukraine.
Sinar Harian also reported that these documents were found after Russian troops seized a Ukrainian military base in Livadny. The man is allegedly involved as a mercenary with Ukraine’s “16th Rifle Battalion,” actively engaging Russian forces.
The driver’s license lists an address in Padang Besar, Perlis, Malaysia, and is valid until February 2025.
