Now that interstate travel is allowed, many of us are planning to go back to our hometown in order to see our parents. Some are looking forward to the festivities that will be coming such as Deepavali. However, there are many who are not as fortunate.
Heavenly Child Home
Heavenly Child Home is where 24 children refer to as their home. Their parental figure comes in the form of B. Kanagendran and his wife. These children come from various backgrounds; most of them are orphans while some of them were neglected children. However, under the couple, they have once again found a home.
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Kanagendran has told us that this home was started back in 2018. Along with his wife, they are taking care of 24 kids of various ages. The father figure has told us that the pandemic has struck them hard,
“During the pandemic, there were no donors and I was the sole breadwinner for the home.”
Now that Deepavali is inching closer, the children are looking forward to playing with fireworks while wearing new clothes. In order to not disappoint them, an NGO by the name of Medals For Awesomeness (M4A) has stepped up to raise funds for them so they can have a bright and memorable Deepavali filled with lights.
Lights of Awesomeness
The fundraiser is named Lights of Awesomeness and it is done in collaboration with blankcanvasing. The aim of this fundraiser is to collect RM6,000 by 17 October for the home so that they will be able to buy new clothes and goodies for the festivities. If you would like to contribute to this cause, you can buy artworks from blankcanvasing’s website here and the proceeds will go to the fundraiser. You can also choose to donate directly to M4A through the following means:
- Bank: Maybank Berhad

Medals For Awesomeness
Medals For Awesomeness was co-founded by Rao Murugesh in 2017. The program was designed to inspire and motivate young minds through the story of “The Spirit Of The Marathoner”.
“As a runner and marathoner myself, I find the story of “The Spirit Of The Marathoner” can be an awesome way to inspire young minds to chase their dreams no matter what life throws at them.”
Other than Lights of Awesomeness, they are also working on other projects and you can find out more on their Facebook page here.
blankcanvasing
Behind blankcanvasing is a full-time working mother of one who goes by the name, Suet, who is also a runner. Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Suet said that she would always experiment with crafting when time permits, however, when she tried painting with watercolour, she was enamoured by the process and the craft which she describes as “magic”.
“Through this process, I learned to have courage to put my work out there and not hide it behind the word ‘hobby’.”
With newfound confidence, Suet will be continuing blankcanvasing after the Lights of Awesomeness and she hopes to collaborate with others in the future. Check out more of Suet’s works here.
The light of Deepavali
Kanagendran and his wife are both very thankful towards M4A and blankcanvasing for this project.
“The word grateful can’t even describe the extent of my emotions.”
“They have played a wonderful hand in supporting us even from the beginning and everyone in the home is highly appreciative of them.”
The couple has told us that it costs RM13,000 to RM15,000 to run the home, so if you are interested in contributing to their expenditure, you can do so through this channel.
- Bank: Maybank Berhad
- Account Number: 512866193222
- Name of Account Holder: Pertubuhan Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Heavenly
The home also welcomes any wet and dry provision donations and help around the home. In addition to that, they are also looking for a voluntary tuition teacher to teach the kids.
“Our doors are always open to those who are generous and kind. We welcome moral support as well.”
This is certainly a great initiative. Even if it’s spare change, remember that you are contributing to creating beautiful memories for the precious children in Heavenly Child Home.
