Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh has announced that for a period of 2 years, schools can make use of the Bukit Jalil National Stadium (SNBJ) for free to hold their sports day.
In a press conference yesterday, Yeoh announced the initiative in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of the Kuala Lumpur Sports City (KLSC) and that the use of the SBNJ by schools is agreed upon by the Malaysia Stadium Corporation (PSM) on 17 July.
The initiative is part of the ministry’s concept of popularising sports among the masses and developing sports for the grassroots at the school level. Previously, schools had to pay the rental costs of the facilities at a discounted rate.
The Youth and Sports Minister asserted,
“I really want school children to experience running the 100 metres at SNBJ, and who knows they will be inspired to become athletes.”
Accordingly, the SNBJ facilities can be used free of charge by schools to host sports day events beginning this October, subject to availability.
Besides that, Yeoh also said that schools can use the Jalan Duta Sports Complex and Bukit Kiara Complex for free for the same reason.
Schools can start booking the venues through PSM starting this August to hold their sports day events.
Furthermore, Yeoh also called on manufacturers of nutritious food to advertise their products on days a sports day event is held at the aforementioned venues and can discuss with PSM their advertising rates which would cover the rental cost.
