It’s no secret that riding e-scooters on roads in Kuala Lumpur is prohibited.

This law came into effect in January 2021, after Head of the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) Assistant Commissioner Zulkefly Yahya shared that electric scooters are only allowed in gazetted areas such as playgrounds, pedestrian areas and areas around shopping centres.

The Pelanggaran Trafik Malaysia TikTok page recently showcased a video of 8 individuals recklessly riding e-scooters down a main road in Cheras.

They wrote, “Gen Z Mat Rempit.”

In their video, the 8 individuals could be seen on e-scooters while riding down a main road somewhere in Cheras.

While the group occupied the most left lane, some ventured into the middle lane and one of them even swerved to the rightmost lane.

“Welcome to Malaysia, man, where every day you see some mindblowing stuff on the road. This is really, really next level. The kind of stupid stuff that you can only see in Malaysia,” they added in their video.

Netizens echoed this sentiment, calling for the authorities to strengthen their law enforcement against such reckless behaviour on the road.

“PDRM should take strict action against these perpetrators.”

“They can be summoned. This is about the safety of other road users.”
