Staff members from the Seremban Toll Plaza were rushed to the hospital after suffering from shortness of breath due to inhaling ammonia gas that leaked following an explosion on a lorry yesterday afternoon (15 January).
The Negeri Sembilan kini Facebook page shared that the incident took place at approximately 1:50 PM. It is believed that one of the 15 ammonia gas cylinders carried by the lorry exploded before the vehicle came to a stop about 50 metres from the toll plaza.

Gas cylinder on lorry explodes, two individuals rushed to the hospital due to ammonia leak
Operations Commander and Senior Assistant Fire Chief, Bakarya Mohd Salleh, stated that the wind carried the gas toward the toll plaza, affecting a female toll collector, a male security guard and the lorry driver.
“The lorry driver only suffered eye irritation, while the 2 toll plaza officers suffered shortness of breath and were taken to the hospital by the Ministry of Health for Further treatment,” he stated.
The lorry driver added that he initially thought a tyre had burst before noticing the strong smell of gas coming from his load.

Firefighters from the Seremban 2 and Seremban Fire and Rescue Stations (BBP) acted quickly. Using full personal protective equipment (PPE), they worked to seal the source of the leak and deployed a ‘water curtain’ technique to prevent the gas from spreading further.
The situation was confirmed safe at 5 PM after the gas was transferred to a new tank under the supervision of the Department of Environment (DOE) and PLUS Malaysia Berhad.
Video of the incident has gone viral

Dashboard camera footage from a vehicle travelling behind the lorry captured the moment of the explosion, which caused the ammonia gas to disperse into the surroundings in a massive cloud.
