It’s a hot sunny day, and you are wandering around the streets of Georgetown, Penang, enjoying the sights and sounds of the beautiful city. You suddenly crave coffee but not those fancy, hipster, pricey single origin ones. Instead, you want that delicious, ice cold, indulgent cup of traditional kopi peng.
Urghh, a cup would be good right about now!
So where do you go? If you are nearby Lebuh Noordin, you can stop by Aunty Evelyn’s coffee stall to try her famous kopi peng that actually comes with latte art. Who says traditional coffee can’t be fancy?
Aunty Evelyn has been running the business for over 30 years and she serves such delicious coffee that she certainly deserves more love and attention from everyone. Don’t be fooled by the humble setup of the shop and modest location though. These places are usually where you will find the best hidden gems! She is a master of her trade and you will be hooked on her coffee once you have taken that first sip.
Now, let’s talk about that latte art which is a signature of her coffee. If you want to see her work her magic, do drop by at 2pm and witness Aunty Evelyn putting her signature star latte art on top of all the drinks.
No fancy milk frother is needed as she only shakes a small bottle containing milk to produce the milk froth to top the coffee. Then she will “draw” the rustic star shape before serving the coffee to customers.
Apart from the delicious kopi peng, you can also have some eggs and toast to fill up your tummy. If you are not a fan of kopi peng (why though?), you can opt for the tea or milo which are just as awesome. Plus, one of the best things about this stall is that one cup of kopi peng only costs RM2.50!
If you need help in finding the shop, look for the Cititel Express Hotel and the shop will be right behind it. Or you can just search for this address: 146, Lebuh Noordin, 10300 George Town, Pulau Pinang.
Aunty Evelyn’s Star Coffee Shop opens daily from 8am to 5.30pm. So, make sure you drop by the next time you are in Penang! You will not regret it.
