It’s no secret that us Malaysians have quite the late night culture. From having supper at the mamak until the wee hours of the morning, to doing any night life activity (karaoke-ing, bar hopping, cybercafe-ing, etc) AND THEN heading to the mamak afterwards, we certainly don’t sleep, especially on the weekends.

This was a bit of a culture shock for a foreign traveler in Kuala Lumpur, who had noticed a bunch of people playing football below the building she was staying at, at 1:30am.

Anna Sullivan took to her TikTok account to share her surprise.

In her TikTok video, she shared how she could hear the whistles from the football match from the unit she was staying in.

“So, I kept hearing whistles and for context, it’s 1:30am. And I just realised, they are still out here playing soccer (football). I’m in Kuala Lumpur and I guess during the day, you know it’s upwards of 90 degrees, so maybe they always play this late because it’s so much cooler. It’s almost 2 o’clock.”

Malaysians (and foreigners who are either in Malaysia or have been to Malaysia) shared how late night activities are just part of our culture.
