Speaking to the media during his weekly press conference in Putrajaya earlier today, Fahmi, who is also the spokesperson for the MADANI Government, asserted that the new directive will involve all telco companies in the country.
Specifically, the telco companies are directed to implement a registration process using digital identity verification via MyDigital ID.

“During the MADANI Economy Digital Framework (MED4IR) meeting yesterday (9 September), there was a discussion on the SIM card registration aspect, and telco companies are instructed to ensure prepaid registrations will utilise MyDigital ID,” elaborated the Communications Minister.
Fahmi further revealed that the enforcement will take place by the end of 2025 and that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will give detailed information on the matter soon.
As for why MyDigital ID will be required to register for prepaid SIM cards, the Communications Minister said that it is meant to cover any loopholes in the current system and, accordingly, avoid any potential misuse by irresponsible parties.
