With Deepavali nearing, preparations for the celebration are almost complete. Unfortunately, not everyone has the luxury of celebrating in their best outfit.
Dr Akmal Saleh, however, is on a mission to distribute new outfits to children who don’t have their “Baju Raya” for the season.

On Friday (17 October), the UMNO Youth Chief was seen visiting a village in Merlimau, Malacca, looking out for children who didn’t have new clothes for the Festival of Lights.
“Everyone will celebrate Deepavali this year!”
In his post, Akmal urged those in the Merlimau district to reach out to him if they know of any children who have yet to receive a new outfit for the season. He also spent the day going house to house, making sure that all children are ready to celebrate in style.
“If you know any kids in Merlimau who don’t have a new outfit for Deepavali, let me know. I’ll get them one.”
He added, “If my kids can get new outfits every time during Raya, that’s what I want for other kids too—for every celebration, regardless of race.”

The Indian community in Malaysia is expected to celebrate Deepavali tomorrow (20 October), and the Ministry of Education has announced additional holidays for the occasion.
