The beauty of Malaysia can undoubtedly be boiled down to our diversity, be it of race, background, culture, or creed.
One uncle in particular, is exemplifying this sentiment in a clip that has been making waves online.
Malaysian TikTok user @bob_jeeva, whose name is Jeeva, recently shared a moment of him interacting with his grandmother’s old friend, who happens to be a Malay man. In the clip, the duo converse entirely in Tamil, with the elderly man speaking the language perfectly.
Without stuttering or needing to hold a brief moment, the uncle, whose nickname is Margono, speaks about a Tamil proverb with Jeeva.
Translated, the proverb in direct English means, “If you feed a child that is not yours, your own child will grow up properly.”
Going on to explain the proverb, Margono gives an example of a man marrying a woman and taking care of her. Referring to the wife as someone else’s child, he exemplifies the proverb by saying that when the time comes for one’s wife to bear a child, she will in turn take care of who will be their own child.
Discussing the matter with other young Malaysian Indians around him, the elderly man states how the younger generation may not completely understand this proverb, all while speaking in Tamil.
Praising the uncle for speaking Tamil, many Malaysians expressed how this truly exemplified the diversity of Malaysia.
“People from before are fluent in Tamil, Hokien, and so much more. This is because they would hang out together, eat together, and even experience difficulties with one another. They always understood what each other went through,” wrote one user.
Another user even said that Margono is their uncle, and that he had lived on an estate in the past, likely accrediting that to his excellent Tamil language skills.
In a brief conversation with WORLD OF BUZZ, Jeeva revealed that Morgono had come to visit his grandmother after not seeing her for the longest time, stating that they had been friends for many, many years.
