World-renowned singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran is currently touring the globe and performing in various countries worldwide under his +–=÷× Tour (pronounced The Mathematics Tour), with the British musician set to take the stage in Malaysia at Bukit Jalil National Stadium on 24 February.
Previously, Ed performed in Thailand and managed to try out unique snacks at 7-Eleven in the country’s capital Bangkok. Most recently, his tour visited Singapore for a one-night show on 16 February and hours before going on stage, the singer went around popular eatery spots in the country to try out the local delicacies.
Ed Sheeran making Teh Tarik like a pro and trying out Singaporean food
Taking to his official Instagram account, Ed was brought by Singaporean live streamer and content creator Denise Teo to the iconic Lau Pa Sat hawker centre near Bugis and Tarik, a cafe in Arab Street to test out the local food and beverages in Singapore.
At Tarik, Ed learned how to make Teh Tarik and impressed the cafe’s staff with his tea-pulling skills. So much so, that the staff even said that he thought the singer had done this before.
After enjoying the Teh Tarik he made, Denise then brought Ed to Lau Pa Sat to try out some local Singaporean dishes, including laksa, rojak, chicken rice, laksa, satay, kaya toast and kueh pie tee. Ed looks to be enjoying the food, including calling laksa a “banging” dish.

Malaysians tell Ed to come to Malaysia for the “authentic” food
In the comments section, many Singaporeans were excited to see the popular singer trying out local dishes and praised Ed for making Teh Tarik like a pro.
However, rather expectedly, the comments section was also flooded by Malaysians who claim that the more authentic versions of these dishes and beverages are in their country.
One commenter said that it would be better if Ed made the Teh Tarik in Malaysia as doing so would make the drink “more authentic”.
Meanwhile, another commenter joked that the British singer was trying Malaysian food in Singapore.
Besides that, one Malaysian jokingly lamented Ed trying the dishes in Singapore as he should’ve tried in Malaysia. The same sentiment was shared by another commenter who said that the musician got to try the “OG” dishes in Malaysia.
One commenter predicted that the comments section would see someone from Malaysia commenting about the food and alas, he was proven right.
Meanwhile, another commenter tells Ed to try “Roti Canai” in Malaysia, making a subtle jibe at how the same dish is called Roti Prata in Singapore.
