A heartwarming story has recently come to light after local influencers Mohd Fadli Salleh and Cikgu Zahran carried out an act of kindness to give back to the community during the holy month of Ramadan.
According to Zahran’s Facebook page, the pair, along with several others, launched a programme that kicked off yesterday (16 March) at a petrol station in Setapak. The initiative offered free petrol specifically for food delivery riders.

A touching encounter with a grateful father
While the programme saw many riders coming and going, one individual in particular touched the hearts of many.
Taking to his Facebook page, Fadli recalled meeting a food delivery rider, estimated to be around 55 years old, who had stopped to claim the free fuel. While filling up the tank, Fadli struck up a conversation, and the rider shared that he works full-time in food delivery.
Fadli asked whether the job provided enough to cover the high cost of living in Kuala Lumpur, to which the rider replied:
“Alhamdulillah, it’s enough to get by. I have five children. My wife doesn’t work, but alhamdulillah, Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (MAIWP) helps monthly. I’m very relieved. Thanks to everyone who pays zakat.
“My first and second children are at university. Alhamdulillah, they got straight As in SPM,” he added.

“He was genuinely grateful for both the zakat and the free fuel”
Deeply moved by the encounter, Fadli shook hands with the rider, who repeatedly thanked the team before riding off to continue his shift.
“He falls into the asnaf category (those eligible to receive zakat) and is already advanced in age, yet I was truly impressed by his diligence. He doesn’t rely solely on zakat and even praised MAIWP for their help.
“He was genuinely grateful for both the zakat and the free fuel. No wonder the Almighty blessed him with smart, capable, and well-mannered children,” Fadli wrote.

Inspired by the rider’s work ethic, Fadli also reminded Malaysians to be grateful for whatever provisions they receive.
“Get up and look for any opportunity to increase your income. Just go for it. Most importantly, be grateful for whatever you have. If we can’t appreciate small blessings, how can Allah grant us bigger ones? That’s just how it is.”
