In today’s live press conference by Defence Minister Ismail Sabri, it was announced that the wearing of face masks was only mandatory for individuals in public crowded places. However, if an individual visits a non-crowded public place such as a park, they are not required to wear a face mask.

Ismail Sabri then addressed a recent case involving a man who was fined RM1,000 for standing outside his home. “There seems to be confusion, even among authorities involving the SOPs for the wearing of face masks. Recently, a viral case involving a person who was alone outside his house and wasn’t wearing a face mask but was still issued a compound fee was brought to my attention.”

“I’ve always stressed that face masks are only mandatory in public crowded places. Like in buses, LRT or markets, it is necessary and mandatory to wear masks but if you are alone or if there is physical distancing like in restaurants, then wearing a face mask is not mandatory,” he added.

The Defence Minister said that what needs to be emphasised in these contexts are CROWDED public places. If an individual is in a public place alone and it is not crowded, and if physical distancing is practiced, they will not be fined for not wearing a mask.

What do you guys think about this?
