Legendary veteran Hong Kong actor, Benz Hui Siu Hung, breathed his last yesterday (28 October) after losing his battle with cancer, which caused multiple organ failures.
Benz was 76 and was still active in the entertainment industry, but many may not know just how hard he had been working, despite his age and having been in the industry for over 50 years, with more than 100 roles.

Benz was working in 3 regions, namely Hong Kong, China, and Singapore, before his death, and he dared not retire.
“Retire? Why should I?”
In an interview conducted before his death, Benz was asked about retirement, to which he casually responded,
“I’m not dead yet. Why should I retire? If there are still debts, I need to keep working. I don’t want to die too soon, so I’ll keep working,” Benz laughed and said.

Benz was also in Malaysia in 2023 for the production of the Hong Kong thriller movie, The Locksmith, which was released in November of the same year. In an interview shortly after his death, Benz’s friend said that he was a family man until the end and had always listened to his wife to make her happy.
“He will do his best to keep his family happy. I hope his family can recover from this loss.”
In a short clip, Benz also said that regardless of how tirelessly one works, no one would ask if they are exhausted.
“All they will ask is how much money you’re making. Sigh, such is life. Everyone will see the results, but only you will understand the process.”
Despite making significantly fewer on-screen appearances, Benz made a few appearances on his daughter’s vlogs.
Benz started his career in the entertainment industry in the 1970s. He found fame with the younger generations via his role as Hiong Sin Nam in 2013’s TV series, The Bounty Lady, and in 2014’s Line Walker as Foon Hei Gor (Brother Foon Hei), an undercover cop who turned into a crime boss as the series progressed.
Both roles secured him The Best Male Supporting Character and the Most Popular Male TV Character, respectively.

Benz will appear in his last TV Series, Themis, scheduled to air sometime in 2026.
