A good relationship with your mum, even when you’re an adult is a blessing. However, that doesn’t mean you should be bringing your “blessings” everywhere, not especially job interviews.
In a viral Xiao Hong Shu (RED) post recently, a woman in China who works in the HR industry shared her experience of dealing with a mummy’s boy who brought his mum along to a job interview. She genuinely thought the woman was there to just show support and wait for her son to go shopping after the interview but little did she know, she was in “for a treat.”
She gave the woman some beverages and snacks while she waited for her son to finish the interview but the food was not going to keep her at the waiting area.
“I have all the documents and information about my son. I’ll go in with him and just observe, I won’t interfere.”
The HR lady politely told the woman that only interviewees were allowed in the room but the “protective” mum did not take it well.
“It’s an interview, why are some people not allowed in the room? I told you, I have his information with me.”
Refusing to cause any more scenes, the HR lady saw no other choice but to grant access to the woman, saying, “Okay, aunty. You can come in, but please don’t interfere in the flow of the interview.”
That was not what happened. During the interview process, the woman helped her son to answer questions throughout the process, frequently praising him and even promoting the projects he had done.
A few days later, the man rejected the position before HR contacted him. However, he then called HR again after leaving his new job due to “a lot of overtime.” Unfortunately, his position has been filled.
Unhappy that her son was rejected, the man’s mother called HR and said that she was being rude, and even said that she was going to report HR.
The HR lady, however, did not entertain the pair further.
