Cheras MP, Tan Kok Wai, is alleging that Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL’s) online systems have been hacked and is being held hostage for a ransom of a whopping USD55 million (RM236.17 million)!
According to a report by China Press, he said that he received this information from someone whom he considers a reliable source and that he believes that the situation is real.

“If it is a technical problem that causes computer freezes or system failures, it should not take more than 3 weeks to be resolved. This is obviously a very serious problem,” he said.
No response from officials?
Tan explained that he had contacted the Kuala Lumpur Mayor’s special assistant on May 8 to request a meeting with the Mayor in regards to this situation as well as others, but has yet to receive any follow-ups.
“I am not only raising this issue, my constituency and community public facilities also need urgent attention, but now it has been 10 days and there is no response,” he said.
He hopes that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Federal Territories Minister Zaliha Mustafa and KL Mayor Maimunah Mohd Sharif will provide an explanation, should the hacking of DBKL’s online systems be real.
“The facial recognition system for entering the municipal office has also been paralysed. Everyone who wants to enter must fill in their information. Will this incident cause the leakage of tens of thousands of personal data? The municipal office has completely disregarded the rights of the public,” he added.
Prior to this, several DBKL online services had allegedly crashed for an unknown period of time.
