If you’re a car owner, besides your engine and tires, something you need to be very mindful of is your windows. Now, your windows CAN be tinted but only to a certain percentage.

Penang JPJ fined vehicles that disobeyed the set rules in their Ops Khas Cermin Gelap. The purpose of this operation is to make sure all drivers obey the set rules which is:

  • 70% light transparency for the front mirror
  • 50% light transparency for the left and right driver-side mirrors

Penang Kini reported that this operation will still continue to ensure all drivers follow the rules. However, if you have a valid reason to tint your windows, you can do so by submitting an application at JPJ’s official website here.

If it’s for medical or safety purposes, the car has to be registered under your name and you will be charged an RM50 fee.

Take a moment to step outside and check your car windows. If it’s over tinted, drive to the nearest workshop, get it corrected or risk getting fined.
