Celebrities and businessmen have reportedly been delaying renewing road tax and insurance for their luxury vehicles — including Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and Porsches — over extended periods. They have allegedly justified this by claiming the cars are seldom used and are intended only as ‘weekend cars’.
According to a report by Berita Harian, the Senior Director of Law Enforcement for the Road Transport Department (JPJ), Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan, shared that these luxury cars are not used every day but are instead driven on weekends and certain occasions.

“However, this is still an offence because the road tax and insurance have not been renewed for a long time,”
“Maybe for these individuals, they rarely use (these luxury cars), so there is no need to renew the road tax and insurance. However, this is an offence,” he explained.
JPJ will take action
Muhammad Kifli went on to add that the authorities have their eye on these luxury car owners.
“We have identified the owners of these luxury vehicles, if we detect their vehicles on the road being driven by them, we will take action.”

Before this, JPJ announced that they have a list of more than 1,000 luxury vehicles that have not had their road tax renewed in a long time.
So far, a total of 154 luxury vehicles, some worth millions of Ringgit each, have been seized by JPJ through Ops Luxury around the Klang Valley.
