The day of a woman’s wedding in India turned out to be her last. In the midst of her wedding ceremonies, a bride suddenly passed away due to a heart attack.
The unfortunate incident happened as the bride named Hetal reportedly fainted during her wedding rituals and passed out. She was then rushed to a nearby hospital, where the doctors informed her family that she had passed away due to a heart attack.
According to India Times, as the family grieved for Hetal, relatives came up with a different idea to make sure the wedding festivities went on.
The family’s relatives suggested that the bride’s younger sister marry the groom in her place. The family then made the decision to wed her younger sister to the groom in order to carry on the wedding customs.
According to reports, Hetal’s body was kept in cold storage until the ceremony was finished.
Corporator of Bhavnagar city and leader of Maldhari Samaj, Laxmanbhai Rathore described the incident as very sad. He said even though the family was shocked by the death of their daughter, members of society convinced them to set an example and not send the bridegroom and his family empty handed.
Easy replacement
The incident then sparked a debate online, as netizens deemed the incident quite inappropriate. Netizens slammed the family and said that it’s an example of how disposable and replaceable girls are in Indian society.
“Just how heartless can one get? The family literally had no love for their daughter,” commented a netizen.
Meanwhile, some netizens attacked the groom for agreeing to the replacement.
“Like he has no emotions, no grief, nothing.”
