The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) today has confirmed the earlier rumour that Datuk Lee Chong Wei was diagnosed with nose cancer. BAM posted the statement on their official website.

However, unlike the rumor which stated that the cancer was at stage 3, he is actually recovering from an early stage of nose cancer.

BAM president, Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria released the official statement early today to explain the rumour that went viral yesterday.

Norza stated,

“Chong Wei is currently in Taiwan seeking treatment and I am pleased to inform you that he is responding well to his treatment and is currently resting and recuperating among family and close friends.”

Datuk Seri Norza also thanked all Malaysians on behalf of the national hero for the prayers, concern and support which directly provide Datuk Lee Chong Wei the strength and courage for his recovery.

He further said,

“We urge everyone to respect his privacy and that of his family. BAM is in constant contact with Chong Wei and we will offer any support to our legend.”

Since the rumour was posted yesterday, many Malaysians were left wondering if it were true or just mere speculation. Thankfully, BAM has finally shed light on this!

Stay strong and fight on Datuk Lee Chong Wei! Malaysians will always be there to support you as you deal with this adversity.
