With the heat of Christmas still ongoing, some places in Malaysia have started to blast the Chinese New Year (CNY) songs to embrace the year of the snake, which is slated for January 29, 2025.

The festive songs will, no doubt, elevate the excitement of those anticipating CNY, but a Singaporean actor and comedian had something to say about the amount and quality of CNY songs in Malaysia.

In a live Facebook video recently, Wang Lei said he was baffled and angered by the overload of CNY songs that Malaysian talents produce every year.

“Everyone is eager to sing today, even when your voice is off”

In the live video, Wang Lei mocked the talents by imitating singing gestures and said Malaysians of any age can be involved in the entertainment industry today despite the lack of singing talent.

“Wow, Malaysia is steady! At least 200 CNY songs every year. We can’t do it in Singapore,” he clapped and said sarcastically.

Wang Lei also said that many of the CNY songs failed to capture the vibes of the festive season, which upset him.

“What does Malaysia have the most? CNY songs! Malaysia is unbeatable in this!” he remarked.

A group of Malaysian YouTubers, Dissy, recently announced their upcoming CNY movie slated for a 2025 release – Close Ur Kopitiam also met with a mixed reaction despite awaiting its release.

Malaysian social media users, on the other hand, were disappointed to hear what Wang Lei had to say about the singers and CNY songs in Malaysia.

“Do you think it’s right for you to say this? Have any of those talents taken anything from you?”

“In Singapore, you’re the best when it comes to vulgarity.”

“Everyone is merely trying to make a living, including you. Respect others and watch your language.”

“I respected you, but it’s disappointing to hear you saying these. Did they offend you by singing CNY songs?”

What do you think of the CNY songs or any other festive season songs in Malaysia?
