Most of us have been told not to retaliate during a robbery in order to minimise the chances of getting hurt, but this couple did the exact opposite when facing a parang-wielding robber, which requires no little amount of courage.
On 16 July, a robbery had taken place at a convenience store in Aman Suria, Selangor and the opportunist culprit decided to hijack a Honda City when the car owner walked into the shop not knowing a robbery was taking place.
According to Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zani Che Din, the robber had initially targetted the Bangladeshi cashier and took some money out of the cash register.
“At this moment, the unsuspecting victim (Honda City owner) entered the shop while his wife waited in the car. Seeing this, the robber slashed the victim and grabbed his car key. The victim ran after the robber but was once again slashed.
“The victim’s wife then left the car and tried to help her husband by pulling the robber away but to no avail,” the cop said.
Surprisingly, the wife didn’t give up at that time and rushed into the car, but she got out after realising that the robber wasn’t planning to stop the car. The suspect left behind a motorcycle, which the cops believe was stolen.
The dramatic scuffle between the victims and the suspect was caught on CCTV. Here’s the footage.
A few days later, the footage started circulating on social media and received mixed reactions among social media users. Some praised them for being exceptionally brave while others reckoned that it wasn’t wise to fight back against an armed robber, as someone could get seriously injured.
The male victim sustained injuries to his face and right arm while his wife escaped unharmed. The husband was taken to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for treatment, the police added.
Meanwhile, the Bangladeshi worker had also received treatment for the minor slash wounds on his arm.
