After a month of fasting in Ramadhan, Raya is celebrated for another month. It has been nearly 3 weeks since Raya started and yes, many are still hosting open houses. Well, it’s called the season of celebration for a reason!
During the first few days of Raya, many eateries were closed, especially if the operators celebrate Raya too. However, there are certain places that opted to close shop for the whole Syawal, which is equivalent to the whole month! Malaysian business & leadership specialist, Shariffuddin shared a clip on his TikTok account and shared why pausing your operation for too long is not good for your sales and the consumers.
“Business is a solution”
Rendang, Lemang, and Ketupat are a must during Raya. Let’s be honest, are you going to eat the same thing for a month or even a week? Does the thought of having Ketupat and Rendang all day err day make you nauseous? Shariffudin said that by the 3rd day itself, many people will start to crave regular, staple food.
“First 2 days of Raya with Ketupat and Rendang? No problem. But we’ll start craving for normal food by the 3rd day,” Shariffudin said.
He then explained that setting up a business is a solution to problems, depending on the kind of business that you’re running. In terms of the food & beverage industry, the business is a solution for those who are not planning to cook and looking to dine out.
Obviously, the longer you take a break, the lesser you earn. Shariffudin said,
“Raya is actually the opportunity for you to gain more sales, and it’s all about your strategy.”
The clip was uploaded during the first week of Raya and by now, everyone has returned to work following their long break, and many eateries have resumed their operations.
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Shariffudin said that based on his observations, most of the eateries have opened their doors again by the 2nd week of Raya.
“Going on break for a week is the standard timing.”
Shariffudin also told WORLD OF BUZZ that although it’s rare, there are a number of food operators who are still on Raya break. Despite being on holiday, he also said that people are not “on a break” when it comes to spending. You can watch and listen to the clip below.
