It’s no surprise that the recent upsurge of Covid-19 cases and the subsequent Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) caused many Malaysians distress, especially SME (Small and medium-sized enterprises) owners.
Who can blame them for being worried? In fact, the president of the Malaysian SME Association, Datuk Michael Kang, told that an estimated 50,000 to 100,000 retailers in the Klang Valley will be forced to close down if the Covid-19 pandemic continues for another three months.
This would cause a loss of up to RM400 million, not including all retailers nationwide. To solve this, the president urged politicians to set aside their respective agendas for their own benefit, which in the end was seen as only inconvenient for the people.
He told Astro Awani that the government should “lockdown” all political activities for now and focus on solving the Covid-19 crisis and developing the country’s economy.
“Our country’s economy is ‘sick’. What do we say we focus on a more important agenda?”
He added that retailers especially those who are in business in malls have gone through too much owing to the recent rise in cases.
Will or more importantly CAN our politicians set aside their differences and help out struggling Malaysians during these crucial times? Well, guess what we can do is just wait and see.
