After much speculation, the official polling date for the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14) has been announced and it will fall on May 9, my fellow Malaysians! Please, go home and vote okay?
While many of us are scrambling to plan for ways to get back to our voting area, AirAsia is offering to waive the flight change fees for bookings where the travel date falls on polling day. They are not the only airlines that are waiving the fees as Cathay Pacific and Malindo have also announced that previously.
In a statement just released today (April 10), they said that they will waive the flight change fees for bookings issued in Malaysia. This offer is only applicable for Malaysians as they want to make sure that travel plans for Malaysian passengers are not affected.
Do note that this change must be done within 10 days of the announcement of the polling day by the Election Commission (EC) of Malaysia. Since the EC has just announced it today, Malaysians will have until April 20 to change their flight plans. Better change your travel dates quick, peeps!
There are two ways that you can change your travel plans – you can either do a date change and postpone your travels or opt for a credit refund into your AirAsia BIG Loyalty account.
Here are the options available:
1. Move Flight Dates: Perform one date change for all bookings without flight change fee to postpone travel by up to 30 days from the original travel date, subject to seat availability and any fare or tax differences
2. Refund into AirAsia credits: Retain the fare value in your AirAsia BIG Loyalty account for future travel with AirAsia, to be redeemed within 90 calendar days from the date of credit issue
If GE14’s date affects your travel plans, here’s how you can request to change your flight dates with AirAsia:
Please fill in an e-Form available here and follow the steps below:
1. Click on the Email Us tab on the right panel
2. Select Enquiry/Request under Type of Feedback
3. Select Booking under Sub Category 1
4. Select GE14 for Sub Category 2
5. Type in your option under Subject: “GE14 – Move Flight” OR “GE14 – Credit Account”
6. Complete the remaining form fields and click Submit to proceed
If you’re opting to move your flight dates, do provide new flight details (date and time), passenger name(s) and scan/photo of your Malaysian Identity Card. For refund into credits, you will need to provide your AirAsia BIG Loyalty member ID and scan/photo of your Malaysian Identity Card as well.
Passengers are also advised to reach the airport earlier to make sure that they have sufficient time to check in and drop off their luggage during the polling period.
Have a safe journey back and do your duty as a responsible citizen to cast your vote!
