In any situation, ambulance should be given priority on the road as the patient’s life may be at stake. If you still think you can conquer the road, what the King did yesterday (April 25) should make you reflect on yourself.
In a short clip posted on the official Facebook page of the National Palace, the King, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah demonstrated what every driver should do on the road when the ambulance’s siren wails – simply give way as we’re taught in driving school.
The King was personally driving his car with a police escort in front of his vehicle, but his privilege did not stop him from doing the necessary.
He can be seen waving his hand, implying for the driver of the ambulance to overtake him.
The incident took place in Pekan, Pahang when he was headed to Istana Abdul Aziz.
Over the years, the King has been widely known by the public as a humble figure who spends his time to mingle with the rakyat, regardless of who they are. His responsibility as a driver as shown in the short clip has (once again) shown why he is perhaps Malaysia’s beloved King who is cherished by many people.
“Dear ministers, are you higher than the King himself?”
In the comment sections, many Malaysians took the opportunity to praise the King for the gesture, despite being every driver’s responsibility. Some netizens also highlighted that the King’s gesture should set an example to some ministers out there who happily hog the road even when an ambulance is present.
“The only ones who don’t do this are the ministers.”
“Long live the King. He gave way to those in need.”
“This is the right way. Long live the King!”
“He drove by himself, and he personally gave way.”
“A commendable act and example.”
“The King prioritises the people. Good job!”
“To those ministers who don’t give way, are you higher than the King himself? Long live the King!”
You can watch the short clip below.
As a driver, it’s our responsibility to give way to ambulance as it’s a matter of life and death. Unfortunately, not many drivers are able to show such a responsibility. With the King’s gesture going viral on social media, it will hopefully set a primary example to those who find it tough to give way to ambulance.
