With the flood conditions in Kelantan and Terengganu improving, a second wave of flood is expected to hit again but this time, other states are expected to get it worse.
Those in Pahang and Johor are advised to be prepared for the second wave of the flood as these two states are expected to be in the danger zones for the next two weeks, starting today (December 8), reported Malaysia Gazette.
Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi hopes the second wave will not be as bad as the first, but preparations are ongoing.
“We have deployed assets and officers to those two states to help the flood victims.”
“We hope that it will not happen like the first wave, but perhaps Pahang and Johor will experience worse floods. Additionally, at the end of this month until March, there will be a flood wave in certain areas in Sabah and Sarawak,” Zahid said at the World Trade Center (WTC) yesterday (December 7).
Meanwhile, Zahid, who is also the Chairman of the National Disaster Management Committee, said that the Department of Social Welfare (JKM) is also expected to coordinate efforts carried out by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) across the country.
Based on the statistics by the Malaysian Department of Social Welfare, as of 9 am today, the number of flood victims in Kelantan has dropped to 2,006.
