Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Friday received the first dose of Covid-19 Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

Hsien Loong in his Facebook post stated that he received the injection alongside the republic’s Ministry of Health (MOH) Medical Services Director, Associate Professor Kenneth Mak. He wrote,

“We received the initial vaccine injection to show Singaporeans that we are confident the vaccine is safe and effective.”

He also explained that both he and Professor Mak were monitored for 30 minutes after the injection for any side effects, such as allergic reactions. They were both healthy after the monitoring session ended.

He elaborated that the country aims to start the vaccination process for the elderly from February and then for Singaporeans as well as long-term residents. He stressed that the vaccination should be done voluntarily and hoped that everyone will get vaccinated when it is their turn.
