He no longer wished to keep the dog

According to Sinar Harian, the incident is believed to have occurred in Bandar Puteri Jaya around 4:30PM.

Initial reports suggest the man is believed to be the dog’s owner and allegedly no longer wanted to care for the animal, which he had been keeping for the past four months.

Meanwhile, Kuala Muda District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan confirmed that a police report has been lodged regarding the incident.

Separately, Harian Metro reported that further investigation revealed the 82-year-old man is suffering from dementia.

“So far, he has admitted to dragging the dog, which is his own pet, but he does not remember why he did it. The elderly man only became aware of the incident after being stopped by members of the public during the incident,” Hanyan added.

The dog is currently receiving treatment

It was also reported that preliminary investigations found that the dog had sustained injuries and had been sent to a veterinary clinic for further treatment.

Hanyan added that the case will be referred to the Department of Veterinary Services for further action under their jurisdiction.

“The suspect is currently being traced to assist with the investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 428 of the Penal Code,” he explained.
