Not wanting to rest our laurels in the fight to stop Covid-19 despite slowly seeing a slight decrease in new cases and an increase in recovery, eight medical professionals in China have just arrived on our shores to lend a helping hand.
As reported in The Star, the medical team is led by Dr Li Jun, a chief physician of the Integrated Chinese and Western Emergency Medicine, who is also the vice-president of the Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Other members of his team are Dr Wen Miaoyun, Dr Zhang Youping, Dr Liu Tao, Dr Sun Jiufeng, Dr Yang Shifang, Dr Luo Xiaodan and Dr Liu Xiangxin, all representing various departments in Guangdong.
Taking to Facebook, the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia announced the arrival of the medical team in its posting under the banner “China and Malaysia Combat Covid-19 Together”.
The generous gesture was well-received by Malaysians can be seen from the hundreds conveying their thank you messages.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said that Chinese Ambassador Bai Tian conveyed the good news when they met at his office in Putrajaya.
“During his visit, the ambassador brought the good news that the eight medical professionals will be in Malaysia on Saturday (today) to share their expertise and success in fighting Covid-19.”
“He also commended Malaysia’s effort in combating the pandemic, adding that China will always stand with Malaysia to overcome the virus.”
According to Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, the team of medical professionals will give Malaysia a helping hand and look at Malaysia’s hospital’s performance in handling the outbreak.
