Recent CCTV footage making the rounds online shows a masked man entering a gold shop, smashing the display glass, and grabbing jewellery before fleeing the scene.
According to Sinar Harian, the robbery took place in Langkawi on June 19, where the masked suspect threw chilli powder at a worker before escaping with several pieces of jewellery.

He fled with RM50k worth of jewellery
According to Langkawi District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Shariman Ashari, the shop owner, a 69-year-old man, and a 60-year-old woman were inside the premises during the incident.
Meanwhile, Kosmo reported that the suspect smashed the display glass with a machete before fleeing with several pieces of jewellery worth around RM50,000.
The 45-year-old suspect is believed to have acted alone but was chased down by the shop owner and nearby members of the public.

He was caught by police officers on duty
However, Shariman said the suspect’s escape attempt failed as he was caught by police officers who were patrolling the area.
The case is being investigated under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery, which carries a prison sentence of up to 14 years and whipping upon conviction.
