According to Sinar Harian, Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said police received a report at around 1:40 PM after neighbours found that the victim did not respond, despite her front door being open while the metal grille gate was locked.
The victim was believed to have been living at the Flat Sri Murni, Sungai Dua unit with her 15-year-old son.

He added that preliminary investigations suggest the slash wounds were inflicted with a sharp weapon to the neck.
“There were no signs of a struggle, indicating the victim may have been attacked by someone she knew. We also believe she was attacked from behind.”
Meanwhile, Harian Metro reported that a post-mortem examination will be carried out to determine the actual cause of death.
