Getting into Harvard isn’t just about being book smart, it’s about putting in years of hard work and dedication. It’s definitely a tough journey, and not many make it through. However, it’s not impossible.

In recent news that’s been making waves online, the President of Harvard Club, Nadiah Wan, took it upon herself to personally congratulate the young Malaysians who have recently been accepted into Harvard.

In the press release provided to WORLD OF BUZZ by Nadiah Wan, she happily shares the news that 4 young Malaysians have just scored spots in Harvard College‘s Class of 2028 this year. 3 are from the Klang Valley, and 1 is from Johor.

She also shared how all 4 of them have achieved remarkable things and expresses how refreshing it is to see our youth making big moves.

In the press release, it was revealed that Harvard College admitted a total of 1,937 students from a pool of 54,008 applications, resulting in an admission rate of 3.59%. Among these successful applicants, the 4 Malaysians represent a fraction of the 15.4% of international students chosen from 94 countries.

Bryan graduated from Garden International School in KL after completing his IGCSEs, while Victor, also a Petronas scholar, finished his SPM at SMK Damansara Utama in Selangor. Thamini completed her secondary school education at ELC International School in Sungai Buloh, and Elisa attended Marlborough College Malaysian in Iskandar Puteri, Johor.

“Harvard admissions is need-blind and financial aid is 100% need-based, meaning that students are admitted solely based on who they are, and not whether they can pay, regardless of socio-economic background. If a student is admitted, Harvard is committed to ensuring that they can afford to attend.”

“It’s been our privilege to listen and learn how young Malaysians have contributed in big and small ways”

According to Harvard alumni interviewer Nadiah Wan, she points out that Harvard College alumni interviewers are more keen on students who are passionate about their interests and have put their energy into creative projects that mean something to them.

“They have the intellectual curiosity and inner motivation to become the catalysts for the people and organisations around them to do more and do better,” she added.

Malaysia’s finest!

As shared by another Harvard alumni interviewer Nick Shaw, he mentioned how the candidates he and Wan Nadiah interviewed were truly outstanding and represent Malaysia’s finest. He further expressed that the 4 young Malaysians are exceptional individuals who are on amazing paths to make a difference in the world.

“What we see in common among these 4 outstanding young men and women are a sense of drive and resourcefulness towards purposeful pursuits, be it academic, athletic, community service, journalism and more.”

It’s inspiring to witness our young Malaysians reaching for the stars. Huge congratulations to Bryan Lim, Victor Ngow, Elisa See, and Thamini Vijeyasingam for securing their spots at Harvard!
