About 4 people were left injured after being attacked by 2 dogs that had escaped from their owner’s house in Kuala Ketil, Baling, Kedah, this morning (April 1).
According to a report by Sinar Harian, the Kedah State Health and Local Government Exco, Mansor Zakaria, shared that the attacks happened outside a surau (prayer hall).

“People who saw the incident tried to chase the dogs away, but were unsuccessful until the owner arrived to control the situation and reclaim the animals,” he said.
The authorities have since been informed of the incident and have ensured that action will be taken to avoid similar situations from happening again.
The dogs attacked people before
In another report by Sinar Harian, it was revealed that the 2 dogs, identified as Rottweilers, had attacked someone 2 years ago.
The Baling District Officer, Yazlan Sunardie Che Yahaya, shared that the same dogs were involved in an attack in 2023, which led to a man sustaining injuries.
Due to this latest incident, the Veterinary Services Department and the Baling District Council (MDB) will collaborate with the police to conduct an investigation.

“I understand that the Veterinary Services Department, MDB and the police will begin the investigation tomorrow (April 2),” he said.
He went on to explain that, while the dog owner has a license to keep Rottweilers, the breed is disallowed from being kept in residential areas.
“Based on initial information, the Rottweiler license is registered for the owner’s business premises. Hence, we will investigate why these dogs were kept at his house.”
“That is why I have ordered the Veterinary Services Department to investigate the method of handling the dogs and take action against the owner. Let the department conduct the investigation first,” he added.
Due to the local councils not having the authority to take action against licensed dogs, Yazlan says he will speak to the owner of the Rottweilers to determine whether the dogs need to be moved to another location, placed in an animal shelter, or euthanised according to SOPs and legal provisions, following investigations.
The police, on the other hand, have asked the owner to hand over the dogs to the Kulim Veterinary Department for immediate examinations and quarantine.
