They were doing it for their family. Bless their hearts!

Just yesterday (10 January), photos were shared on Facebook showing two kids in school uniform rummaging through garbage, apparently searching for anything they could sell in return for money.

According to Milo Suam, Mohd Shahrizad, the user who shared the photos stated that he saw them on the streets at around 5.30am near the Port Klang market.

“I would usually go to the market around 5.30am. After buying my items, I headed back to my car and that’s when I saw these two children.”

“What are you two doing?” Shahrizad asked them.

“We’re looking for things to sell. We need pocket money for school,” one of them answered.

Touched by what he just heard, he decided to hand them some cash before leaving the area. His post received positive reactions from netizens and it has left us wondering, who are these kids and why are they doing this?

Based on an update by Milo Suam, Pelabuhan Klang’s assemblyman, Azmizam Zaman Huri headed down to the market at 4.30am today (11 January) in hopes to obtain further information on the children and their family.

After receiving information from the market’s workers and customers, they managed to track down the two siblings. It turns out that their parents were Rohingya refugees, under UN protection.

The father reportedly earns RM50 daily by helping to sell vegetables at the market, while the family would rummage through trash to find something worth selling.
