A few weeks ago, the story of this Terengganu boy went viral all over the internet after his pictures, which were taken by a talented photographer, won an international award.
Now, another Malaysian girl and her albino buffalo have managed to capture netizens’ attention as many were intrigued by their odd friendship.
Nadia Khairun Nisa Yusof is a 17-year-old young lady from Terengganu who went viral after pictures of her and her 760kg muscular friend were posted on Facebook by Amazing Terengganu on 18 January 2019.
Nadia’s friendship with Awang, the albino buffalo, started when her 74-year-old father, Yusof Mohammad bought him from a breeder in Kuala Berang.
Since then, their friendship grew and people began nicknaming her “Gadis Kerbau Pink”, which roughly translates to “Pink Buffalo Girl”.
Awang is now six years old and he is already well-versed with Nadia’s movements every time they are together. Nadia was quoted by Astro Awani as saying,
“Awang is very close to me because we have become good mates since six years ago. I would always go see Awang right after I come back from school at 3pm.”
Nadia said that she would bathe and feed him before taking Awang to graze the grass and wallow in mud or water. After that, she would go home before it gets dark. She continued,
“If I don’t see Awang for one day, I get very restless. I can’t imagine having to part with him one day later.”
Nadia, who is the fifth generation of a buffalo breeder family, aspires to become a veterinarian. Unlike other teenagers her age, she finds little pleasure in things like make-up and social media.
She reckoned that connecting with animals gives her more her peace and happiness, and that’s why she wants to become a vet.
Nevertheless, she does enjoy fiddling with her phone every now and then but only when she needs to as she spends most of her time with Awang.
Meanwhile, Yusof said that Nadia is very interested in taking care of his cattle compared to his other kids. He revealed that Nadia successfully domesticated Awang all by herself because the buffalo was a little wild when they first got him.
Yusof added that he offered no assistance or tips to her when she was trying to domesticate Awang. Awwh, Awang and Nadia’s story is similar to Ferdinand, which is a movie about a gentle buffalo.
We hope that Nadia and Awang’s friendship will continue to flourish and we also hope that Nadia gets to achieve her dreams of becoming a veterinarian. All the best, sis!
