You’ll have to plan your journey for the upcoming weekend. 14 roads in KL will be closed on Saturday (July 20) for King’s coronation.

The road closure will take place for 12 hours, which will begin at 8am until 8pm in conjunction with the installation of Sultan Ibrahim as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong. According to Kuala Lumpur’s Chief Police, Rusdi Isa said the roads will be closed to make way for guests attending to coronation, as well as related events.

“A total of 387 traffic policemen will be deployed to escort VIPs and to make sure the coronation goes smoothly.”

With the hectic traffic in KL every weekends as Malaysians flock the city center for a day out, the traffic is expected to get worse this Saturday with this road closure.

Here is the list of roads that will be closed this Saturday for 12 hours, according to an official statement by PDRM.

  • Jalan Tun Razak
  • Jalan Kia Peng
  • Jalan Raja Chulan
  • Jalan Ampang
  • Jalan Sultan Ismail
  • Lebuhraya Sultan Iskandar
  • Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim
  • Jalan Semantan

Other roads involved in the road closure also include the Kuala Lumpur – Seremban Expressway, Jalan Kuching (Southbound), Dato Onn roundabout, and last but not least, Jalan Parlimen.

Rusdi also urged all road users to avoid these roads which will cause more traffic congestion.

“Please follow the instructions of the policemen on duty who will be at the scene to control the traffic and crowds.”

The previous YDPA, Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah ruled Malaysia for 5 years from 2019 until 2024. He was coronated as the 16th YDPA at the National Palace on July 30, 2019, seven months after his accession to the throne.

To those who have weekend plans, do plan your journey ahead to avoid disappointment!
