A 10-year-old boy, who is a nasal cancer patient, suffered from a concussion after reportedly being bullied at his religious school in Johor Bahru, Johor, last February.
According to a report by Harian Metro, the boy’s mother, 39-year-old Siti Suhana Misdi, shared her disappointment that no action has been taken against the 12-year-old perpetrator on the excuse that they are still a minor. She explained that, in February, her son was beaten, kicked, hit on the head and forced to strip naked by the Standard 6 student.

She added that the bullying allegedly stemmed from the perpetrator’s dissatisfaction that the victim’s older sister had rejected their confession of love.
“My son received treatment at a private hospital in the city from March 12 to 26, and was confirmed to have suffered a concussion. I only found out about the incident (the bullying) on March 24, after my daughter shared the true incident because she was worried about her younger brother’s condition,” she said.
Can the police take action?
She has since filed a police report at the Taman Universiti Police Station, after the boy was discharged from the hospital.
However, she was left disappointed when she was informed that it was unsuitable for an investigation paper to be opened for the case, and that the only action taken was a meeting session between both parties.
“Until now, I am not satisfied because the impact (of the bullying) on my son is very deep; he suffered a concussion to the point that he was unable to concentrate on his studies or participate in sports. The doctor said the recovery period may take up to 3 years, and he will have to rely on medication, in addition to facing the risk of seizures if he falls or faints,” she added.
A different incident
What makes this worse is that her son allegedly once again became the victim of bullying by a different perpetrator while at a national school in Skudai in August.
“I’m not sure why my son became a victim (of bullying), it seems it’s because he is seen as a weak person because of his illness that he is treated like that. My son has been suffering from nasal cancer for the past 2 years. Thank God his condition has recovered by 80% and he only has mild symptoms after receiving appropriate treatment,” she explained.
The Johor State Education and Information Committee Chairman, Aznan Tamin, has since announced that his party and the Johor State Education Department (JPN) are taking further action regarding the complaint.
