Yes! No one will call you weird anymore for craving in-fight meals cause apparently, the demand is so high, AirAsia just had to touchdown their recipes for the land dwellers.
Named after the most significant ingredient in most local traditional dishes, the Santan Restaurant aims to cater to customers with ASEAN themed dishes.
Attending the grand opening was the Minister of Domestic Trade & Consumer Affairs of Malaysia, YB Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, AirAsia Group Executive Chairman Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, CEO of AirAsia Group Tony Fernandes, AirAsia Group President (RedBeat Ventures) Aireen Omar, and General Manager of Santan Restaurant and T&CO Cafe Catherine Goh.
And hey, your desires won’t cost you a pretty penny since most of their menu items are sold for as low as RM12!
Among the most anticipated dishes in their menu item are Pak Nasser’s Nasi Lemak and Uncle Chin’s Chicken Rice. On top of that, you can even experience mainstream cuisine from our neighbouring countries such as the Pineapple Fish Noodle from Cambodia and Chicken Inasal with Garlic Rice from the Philippines.
Additionally, highlighting locally sourced coffee and tea, the restaurant and cafe even serves snacks and desserts that were inspired by regional palates such as the Nasi Lemak Quinoa Wrap and Onde-Onde Cake.
What makes them so novel? Airplane food recipes are said to be different as they were particularly concocted with the state of our in-flight tastebuds considered. With the change of pressure in the cabin during flight, one-third of our tastebuds will be numb and the low humidity atmosphere dries our nose.
“By the end of 2020, we aim to have five owned Santan restaurants and 100 franchisee-operated restaurants and cafes within the next three to five years with expansions in global markets,” General Manager of Santan Restaurant and T&Co Cafe Catherine Goh said in a press release.
