Hannah Yeoh has criticised the government for their confusing rules regarding the RM10,000 compound issued to violators of the standard operating procedures (SOP).
In a Facebook post, she referred to the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA)’s offer of free legal aid to those who have been wrongly fined RM10,000, questioning why the government is “making it difficult” for the people but ‘helping’ them at the same time.
“What is this madness? MCA and UMNO in the Perikatan Nasional Government implemented the Emergency Ordinance compound of RM10,000 and now want to give legal aid?” she said.
“The right hand makes it difficult for the people, the left hand wants to help the people?”
Hannah Yeoh then questioned the use of various other welfare assistances, like MyBeras KL that donates rice to the needy and the increase of JKM’s welfare assistance to RM1,000, when the compound was also increased by 10 times.
“The PN government has no experience in administering well. First, they issue compounds then only want to detail the offences,” she said.
“Confusing enforcement officers such as the police with their SOPs adds to the burden of district health officers to examine the RM10,000 compound appeal.”
MCA has since clapped back, saying that “Hannah Yeoh is one of the examples of immature DAP leaders”.
“It has been clearly stated that MCA Youths will help those who are compounded despite following SOP (not intentionally violating SOP like the Perak DAP Convention recently),” MCA said on their Facebook page.
The National Youth Chairperson of MCA, Nicole Wong also commented on the issue, saying that “YB DAP was elected by the people, (who) did not care, did not help, but only adding fuel to the fire.”
“This is their real face.”
Yesterday (15 March), the government announced that it will detail offences that can be fined RM10,000 under the Emergency (Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases) (Amendment) Ordinance 2021 to address confusion among the community.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said that the matter will be discussed at the Covid-19 Emergency Management Technical Committee meeting today (16 March).
