The latest announcement by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba that ministers only need to be quarantined for three days after returning from overseas is the hottest topic of discussion right now.

Many have pointed out the absurdity of this ruling as there is a clear double standard that has been set for VIPs and politicians.

Perlis Mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin has questioned the rationale behind the ruling.

“Can I go overseas and just be quarantined for three days? What is the difference between my body and those who have the special relaxation (of the quarantine)?” he said on Twitter.

On the other hand, lawyer Syahredzan Johan and political secretary to DAP’s Lim Kit Siang said that the blame should not be put on Adham Baba alone as he wasn’t the only one who made this decision.

“I believe this is a Cabinet decision. It is not the fault of Adham Baba alone. A Cabinet must be responsible,” he said.

He also questioned in another Tweet about the science behind the decision, indicating that science is needed when dealing with a virus.

“There is no point asking about the science of it from someone who talks about warm water to prevent Covid,” he said.

Lim Kit Siang also gave his comment.

“Muhyiddin should direct his Health Minister Adham Baba to retract his quarantine rules to uphold the Prime Minister’s own pledge that there will be no double-standards in Covid-19 quarantine SOP,” he said.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Bandar Kuching, Kelvin Yii also has questions of his own.

“If Ministers’ immune systems are so good, why cannot have Parliament meetings?” he said.

At the time of writing, #AdhamBabaLetakJawatan is still trending on Twitter.

We hope that no new Covid-19 clusters will be formed as a result of this new ruling. If ministers aren’t going to follow proper quarantine orders, let’s all continue to do our part nevertheless, and stay home as much as we can.
