With the heat of Chinese New Year still very much alive, many are flocking to cinemas to catch up with the CNY movies.

One of the CNY movies, Close Ur Kopitiam, which was the “baby” of a group of Malaysian YouTubers, Dissy, made over RM7 million as of last night (February 7) in just 10 days. In a Facebook post last night, Dissy took the opportunity to thank Malaysian fans for the achievement.

“Our movie has its flaws, but the intention for creation will always be there”

In its post, Dissy thanked the fans and said that without them, the movie wouldn’t have made it this far. Throughout time, Dissy has received a lot of support, feedback, and constructive criticisms, which they are well aware of.

“We noticed everything. We’re still new in the movie industry, but your feedbacks help a lot.”

“We take that as a motivation for us to do better, and we hope to make better production for you in the future.”

Dissy also sought everyone’s support not just for their upcoming projects but also the local movie industry in general, including those hard at work behind the scenes. The YouTubers also said that despite being far from perfect, it will never shatter their fragments of imagination to create more projects.

“Let’s work together and maintain your support so that the local movies can gain more recognition!”

Close Ur Kopitiam was released nationwide on January 29 and is still playing in Malaysian theatres. The movie revolves around the theme of cyberbullying and its consequences when a Kopitiam boss crosses paths with a social media influencer.

What is your favorite CNY Movie this year?
