The attack that took place at the Ulu Tiram police station shocked the nation. As a result of the attack, 2 police officers have passed away, and another is critically injured.
The Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, said that the suspect was well-equipped and prepared before proceeding with the attack.
Berita Harian reported that this is based on the fact that the man brought with him a makeshift shield.
“Based on our investigations, the suspect who did this was well-prepared. The bag that was used as a shield contained zinc, fabric and paper for him to go against the police.”
The IGP also believes that the 21-year-old man had another motive after he took a gun from one of the police officers that he ambushed.
“We think that he may have come to get firearms from the police for a certain agenda that we are still investigating.”
The Minister of Home Affairs added later on that the suspect was untrained and not acting as a member of Jemaah Islamiyah (an Islamist militant group) but was rather acting on his own.
According to RTM, he also said that this incident will not threaten public safety and order.
At 2:30 am on May 17, a pair of students went to the Ulu Tiram police station to lodge a police report on a case that happened two years ago.
At the same time, the suspect went to the back of the police station on a motorcycle and killed the officer who went to check.
He then took his gun and managed to kill an officer before injuring another. The injured police officer managed to land a killing shot on the suspect.
