A student in Kedah passed away after participating in a cross-country run on Thursday (February 27).

According to a report by Harian Metro, 16-year-old Muhammad Haziq Uzayr Hairuddin allegedly collapsed upon reaching the finish line after completing a 6km run. Panic ensued when the victim, who was previously active in sports, collapsed and became unconscious.

Kuala Muda District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail, shared that the teacher on duty and several students who are members of the Red Crescent Society (PBSM) took the student to a nearby tent and provided first aid.

“However, the student did not respond when emergency aid was provided. The teacher called an ambulance, and the student was taken to the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH),” he explained.

Unfortunately, the student died while on the way to the hospital.

The victim’s father had told authorities that his son was healthy and did not suffer from any illnesses.

“A review also found that the victim’s father gave written permission for his son to participate in the sporting event,” he added.

Initial police examinations on the student’s body showed no signs of a crime or treachery.
