On 15 and 16 November, fans packed Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP) for Symphonic Ghibli, an enchanting musical tribute. The MPO brought Joe Hisaishi’s iconic scores to life, delivering a magical experience that captivated the audience. If you missed out on the magical tribute, read on and we’ll share what went down during the shows.

Led by resident conductor, Gerard Salonga, the evening opened with ‘Merry-Go-Round of Life’ from Howl’s Moving Castle, a piece that transitioned from delicate piano notes before it built up to a grand crescendo. This magical introduction set the tone for a night filled with nostalgic melodies. The night continued with ‘Princess Mononoke’ from Princess Mononoke. Its commanding arrangement captured the film’s themes of the relationship between humans with nature, leaving a powerful impression on the audience.

Its bittersweet piano melodies perfectly conveyed Chihiro’s emotional journey.

The concert also featured timeless pieces from My Neighbor Totoro. Charming tracks like ‘Stroll’ featured soothing piano notes and the uplifting ‘Ending Theme’ perfectly captured the joy and innocence of childhood of Satsuke and Mei.
