As the flash floods have hit many parts of Kelantan and Terengganu severely, the unity government has announced cash aid for the flood victims in both states to ease their burdens. As for the Menteri Besar of Terengganu, he recently found himself under fire for being away in New Zealand when the people in the state are hit by the disaster.

The Terengganu MB, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar visited the flood victims in Terengganu immediately after he returned home, and just yesterday (December 23), in his Facebook live video, he apologised for his absence in the state during the critical times.

“It is my regret that I couldn’t be with the flood victims. As I wasn’t there during the critical times, I seek a million of apologies from the victims in Terengganu.”

He added,

“I’m aware that regardless of my excuses, it will not change the fact that I wasn’t here for the people in Terengganu during the tough times.”

Dr. Ahmad decided to fly to NZ after believing that the flood in Terengganu has improved and that the water has receded. However, after receiving major backlash from the people regarding his absence, he immediately made his way back home to visit the flood victims.

Pindah Kurang Lagi

According to him, the peak of the flood in Terengganu took place during his absence – Sunday (December 18) until Wednesday (December 21).

Cash aid for the flood victims

In his live video, Dr. Ahmad took the opportunity to announce special financial aid for the flood victims, and here’s what they can expect.

  • Rm1,000 to every head of household who is affected.
  • RM10,000 to every household that has a death in the family due to the flood.
  • The state government will help with any infrastructure damage to fix the damaged houses, after receiving the report of the full review.

Keep in mind that every household has to register for the special financial aid.

Dr. Ahmad also assured the people that he has never abandoned his duty as the MB of Terengganu as he has always observed the flood condition in the state from time to time.

Following his apology and cash aid, we hope that all ministers in the country will always be ready to help the people, especially those in need.
