Taylor Swift is probably one of the most famous artists of this era and she is currently on her world tour performing for her fans.
The artist is in the South American leg of her show, specifically in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil where an unprecedented accident had taken place.
It is said that 23-year-old Ana Clara Benevides Machado has sought help from the stadium staff as she was feeling unwell. She was later transferred to the hospital where she died an hour later. The cause of death as reported by Brazillian media is cardiorespiratory arrest.
Rio De Janeiro is still undergoing a heatwave and BBC reports that the heat index, which combines temperature with humidity, was 59.3C on Friday followed by 59.7C on Saturday.
Adding on to this, the stadium where the concert was held prohibits the audience from bringing in water bottles. As it was an outdoor stadium in the sweltering heat, many fans in the audience were dehydrated and asked the organisers to give them water but their desperate cries were unheeded.
Taylor herself had to give out water bottles to some fans but she could only do so much.
Taking to Instagram, the artist said:
“I am overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it. This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring the tour to Brazil.”
In another story, she said that she would be postponing the show to another day.
“The safety and well-being of my fans, fellow performers and crew has to and always will come first.”
We certainly hope that the organisers of the tour at the other locations will take note of this. May the fan who passed away rest in peace.
